Commercial Analyst (up to £50,000)

6 month fixed term contract

About the role

As a Commercial Analyst, you will play a central role in supporting the commercial performance of Gardeners’; World. Working closely with the Commercial Director, you will provide analytical, operational, and coordination support across financial planning, reporting, and magazine publishing activity. This is a varied role that sits at the heart of the commercial team, requiring strong attention to detail, an ability to manage multiple workstreams, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.

 

As a Commercial Analyst, you will;

Financial Support

  • Support ongoing cost management and budget tracking across the commercial team
  • Assist with monthly P&L reporting and variance analysis
  • Support forecasting and profitability modelling across products
  • Assist in the preparation of financial scenarios ahead of budget cycles
  • Support margin and profitability analysis across products and commercial activity
  • Assist with pricing and yield analysis as required

Reporting & Business Performance

  • Help to prepare board reports, MBRs, and commercial updates by consolidating inputs from multiple stakeholders
  • Maintain the commercial tracker and report commercial outputs from various teams to the management accountant
  • Analyse the profitability of different products, including subscriber vs newsstand performance

Cross-Functional Coordination

  • Ensure actions and commercial deliverables are progressing to agreed timelines, including Apple News, newsstand activity, and outcomes of weekly progress meetings with the subscriptions team
  • Act as a central coordination point for BAU commercial activity
  • Own subscription offer-tracking once relevant information is available

Magazine Publishing

  • Work with the Head of Operations on covermount (seeds) planning and coordination
  • Support magazine supply number planning and circulation results analysis
  • Support and coordinate the annual seed proposal process for 2027
  • Provide retail and circulation reporting support

Requirements

  • Strong numerical and analytical skills, with experience in financial reporting or commercial analysis
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and comfort working with data sets
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple workstreams simultaneously
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with an ability to present information clearly to senior stakeholders
  • A proactive, detail-oriented approach with a willingness to take ownership of tasks
  • Experience in or an understanding of magazine publishing, media, or a subscription-based business is desirable
